Kazakhstan is strengthening its position as a key transit hub in the region, said Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Trade Chamber of Kazakhstan Asan Jakishev at the sixth business forum of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which is taking place in the city of Shusha, Azerbaijan, EDnews reports.
According to Jakishev, the transport and logistics sector of Kazakhstan remains the most important transit link: "The country is actively developing infrastructure in the north-south and east-west directions."
He noted that the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk, the dry port of Khargos, as well as large-scale projects to modernize the railway network, create favorable conditions for increasing transit volumes and optimizing supply chains.
"Kazakhstan pays special attention to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). In 2024, the volume of transportation on this route reached 4.5 million tons. Currently, active work is underway to digitalize logistics, unify procedures, attract investment in infrastructure hubs and form a reliable base for the development of the route," Jakishev said.
At the same time, according to him, Kazakhstan attaches particular importance to ensuring transport connectivity with South Asia. Afghanistan is viewed as a promising partner in the framework of infrastructure, trade and humanitarian initiatives, as well as an important link in regional stability, Jakishev added.
