In response to the exposure of intelligence activities of employees of a media center (Sputnik Azerbaijan, - ed.) that violated Azerbaijani legislation and was officially suspended, as well as the exposure of a Russian network using the country's territories as transit for illegal transportation of narcotics, Russia is demonstrating a position of revenge, Political scientist Yegana Hajiyeva said. EDnews report, citing report.az
Hajiyeva stated that this revenge is being carried out against Azerbaijani individuals who have considerable influence in Russian society:
"This is actually a demonstration of Russia's behavior as a state. In times of crisis and tension, Russia resorts to muscle-flexing and revenge instead of seeking solutions and putting forward initiatives."
The political scientist added that the detention of Shahin Shikhlinskiy, the leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Urals, should be unequivocally assessed from the aspect of revenge:
"Shahin Shikhlinskiy has a reputation as a philanthropist. He systematically engages in this philanthropic mission, but we see that he is becoming a victim of Russia's current policy."
She also evaluated the processes that have taken place over the last two days:
"From the processes of the last two days, one can conclude that there are certain groups and circles within the Russian government that are extremely interested in relations with Azerbaijan taking an even more crisis-like state."
