Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has criticized the United States’ handling of the FIFA World Cup, accusing Washington of applying what he described as a pattern of “bullying” and unfair treatment similar to its foreign policy approach, EDnews reports.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian claimed that the US was “bending rules, bullying rivals, creating obstacles and cheating” while hosting the tournament.
He said Iran rejects what he called the “MAGA playbook” and would continue to “stand firmly” in defence of its rights.
The remarks come amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, following a new escalation in relations, including reported US strikes on targets inside Iran and the reimposition of oil sanctions.
The Iranian leader’s comments add a political dimension to ongoing disputes between the two countries, extending beyond diplomatic and security issues into international sporting events.
The U.S. government's conduct as World Cup host follows its familiar foreign policy: bending rules, bullying rivals, creating obstacles, and cheating. This is their MAGA playbook. Iran rejects such games. We stand firmly for our rights.
