US President Donald Trump has said Washington will make a decision on whether to approve the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Türkiye, EDnews reports.
Speaking during a press statement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the presidential palace in Ankara, Trump was asked whether the United States plans to provide Türkiye with F-35 aircraft and how existing legal restrictions could be addressed.
“We’ll make a decision. I think a lot of people—and judging by those sitting here now—would say, ‘Why don’t we do it?’” Trump said.
The US president said relations between Washington and Ankara have improved significantly, describing Türkiye as a more reliable partner than some countries from which the United States had expected stronger cooperation.
“We now have a much better relationship with Türkiye,” Trump said, adding that Ankara has “proven itself to be a much more loyal partner.”
The remarks came during Trump’s meeting with Erdoğan in Ankara on the sidelines of the NATO summit, where defence cooperation and regional security issues are among the key topics of discussion.
