Azerbaijan and British energy giant BP held discussions on deepening cooperation in the fields of decarbonization, exploration, and production, as well as BP’s broader operations in the country. The meeting took place between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and BP CEO Murray Auchincloss.
The talks focused on key aspects of the company's long-term activities in Azerbaijan, including its participation in major energy projects and growing involvement in renewable energy development.
Minister Jabbarov highlighted that the new agreements signed during the recent Baku Energy Week are expected to significantly enhance the strategic energy partnership between Azerbaijan and BP. He noted that these agreements reflect the shared vision of both sides toward sustainable energy development and a low-carbon future.
"We highly appreciate BP’s active engagement in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy initiatives and exchanged views on the company’s operations in the country, including decarbonization efforts, as well as ongoing exploration and production projects," Jabbarov stated.
BP has been one of Azerbaijan’s most important energy partners for nearly three decades, playing a leading role in projects such as the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli oil field, the Shah Deniz gas field, and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. In recent years, the company has increasingly focused on supporting Azerbaijan’s green transition agenda by exploring solar, wind, and hydrogen energy initiatives.
The meeting underscored mutual interest in strengthening collaboration not only in traditional oil and gas projects but also in advancing decarbonization technologies, energy efficiency, and renewable capacity building.
