German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has called on the Iranian leadership to demonstrate transparency regarding its nuclear ambitions and to show a clear willingness to return to the negotiating table amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
"Iran should act prudently. It is never too late to come to the negotiating table," Wadephul stated during a press briefing, emphasizing the urgency of diplomatic engagement to prevent further deterioration of regional stability.
Wadephul also expressed Germany's support for Israel's ongoing military operation, citing Tel Aviv’s longstanding concerns over Tehran’s nuclear program. “Israel’s concerns are entirely understandable,” he said, underscoring the international community’s apprehension about Iran’s potential to develop nuclear weapons capabilities.
The German minister’s comments come amid a dangerous cycle of escalation between Israel and Iran, triggered by recent airstrikes and retaliatory missile launches. As fears of a broader regional conflict grow, Berlin has reiterated its commitment to diplomatic efforts while affirming its solidarity with Israel's right to security.
Germany, traditionally a key player in European diplomatic efforts related to the Iran nuclear deal, has repeatedly urged Tehran to comply with international norms and ensure its nuclear program remains peaceful. Wadephul’s remarks signal a hardening stance as diplomatic channels appear increasingly strained.
