The Leninsky District Court of Russia's Yekaterinburg has issued a decision to remand Azerbaijani citizen Aziz Abasov into custody, according to the court's press service, EDnews reports, citing the Russian media.
The measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen until July 19, 2025. Thus, the number of Azerbaijanis arrested in Yekaterinburg has reached eight.
On the morning of June 27, the Russian FSB raided the houses of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. During the raid, two people were killed and several others were injured. The killed Azerbaijanis are the brothers of the famous journalist Seyfaddin Huseynli. They were buried on July 1 in Aghjabadi.
On June 28, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement demanding an investigation and the prosecution of those responsible for this unacceptable act of violence. Later, the Russian chargé d'affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a strong protest was expressed to him in connection with what had happened.
