Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan plans to use bilateral meetings during the NATO summit to advocate for the swift resumption of negotiations aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
According to a Turkish government source, Erdoğan will stress that diplomacy remains the only viable path to achieving a lasting peace between the two countries.
The initiative follows recent remarks by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who reportedly informed Russian President Vladimir Putin that Türkiye is prepared to facilitate negotiations to help resolve the conflict.
In June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said future peace talks with Russia could take place in a neutral country, naming Türkiye and Switzerland as potential venues.
Türkiye has repeatedly positioned itself as a mediator in the conflict, having previously hosted negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives.
