Around 500 people have been evacuated after a wildfire broke out in Spain’s eastern Valencian Community.
According to Spanish broadcaster RTVE, the blaze in Castellón province has burned approximately 150 hectares (371 acres) of land since it erupted on Sunday.
Firefighting efforts intensified on Monday morning, with 12 aircraft deployed to help contain the flames. Officials warned that Spain’s second heat wave of the summer, expected to strengthen during the day, could hamper efforts to bring the fire under control.
Meanwhile, firefighters from the Asturias region have joined operations to tackle another forest fire that has been burning in a mountainous area since 26 June.
In northeastern Spain, authorities continued monitoring the site of a major wildfire in Girona, Catalonia, which was brought under control on Saturday after scorching nearly 2,300 hectares (5,680 acres).
According to Catalonia’s Emergency Medical System (SEM), 14 people received medical treatment following the Girona wildfire. Firefighters remained on the scene early Monday to prevent the flames from reigniting.
