Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has received the newly appointed United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Dmitry Shlapachenko, EDnews reports referring to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the UN, partnership prospects, and regional and international security issues.
The minister noted that long-term and fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN is successfully developing in various areas. It was noted that next year will mark the 35th anniversary of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN, and this significant date creates new opportunities for further strengthening the partnership.
The parties emphasized Azerbaijan's active role in facilitating the resolution of global challenges and noted that the successful holding of COP29 and the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in recent years clearly demonstrated the importance the country attaches to multilateral cooperation.
In this context, it was noted that the signing of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030 marked a new stage of cooperation with the UN system. It was also emphasized that Azerbaijan will continue to host events of international significance.
The meeting discussed Azerbaijan's role as a reliable bridge between Europe and Asia, ongoing projects to expand transport and communications links, the growing importance of the Middle Corridor, and the development of cooperation with Central Asian countries, including opportunities within the C6 cooperation format.
Regarding regional security, the minister briefed the meeting on the post-conflict realities in the region, the large-scale restoration work being carried out in liberated territories, and measures to ensure the safe and dignified return of former internally displaced persons to their homelands.
Speaking about the normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations, the minister emphasized the importance of leveraging existing opportunities to ensure sustainable peace.
Jeyhun Bayramov wished the UN Resident Coordinator success in her work. Shlapachenko, in turn, expressed the UN's interest in further developing cooperation with the country in all areas and strengthening the partnership in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
During the meeting, an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest also took place.
