Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that the Etchmiadzin Cathedral has been seized by an anti-Christian, immoral, anti-national, and anti-state group, EDnews reports.
Pashinyan said he intends to personally lead the "liberation" of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
"Beyond all the disputes during this period, the most important thing was revealed: the complete absence of any connection or contact between Ktrich Nersisyan [Karekin II], Vazgen Galstyan, Gevorg Ajapakhyan and some others with Jesus Christ and His teachings," Pashinyan wrote on Facebook.
Since late May, Pashinyan has been making harsh statements against Karekin II and the archbishops of the Armenian Apostolic Church, demanding that the Catholicos leave the throne due to reports of violating the vow of celibacy. The other day, the prime minister announced the need to hold early elections for the Catholicos of All Armenians.
