Slovenia considers Azerbaijan a key partner in diversifying energy sources, strengthening energy security, and implementing green transition goals, Bojan Kumer, Slovenia's Minister of Environment, Climate and Energy, said at the meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Parviz Shahbazov, EDnews reports.
"Today's meeting is a continuation of the active political dialogue between our countries. We focused on issues of crucial importance for our common future, reliable supply of natural gas, long-term energy cooperation, and, first and foremost, the development of renewable energy projects. I am confident that through a common understanding of future challenges and opportunities, we will be able to build a sustainable energy future together," he noted.
Azerbaijan currently exports natural gas to 12 countries, including 10 European nations, along with Türkiye and Georgia. Among the European recipients is Slovenia.
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) began supplying gas to Slovenia on August 1, 2024. The supply is carried out based on a memorandum of understanding on expanding cooperation in the field of gas supply signed on July 17 between SOCAR and Slovenia's largest gas market company, Geoplin.
