An event has been held in the UK Parliament to raise awareness of the landmine threat facing Azerbaijan, Ednews informs referring to the Azerbaijani Embassy in the UK.

The event dedicated to landmine clearance in Azerbaijan and assistance to landmine victims, was organized by the British Parliamentary Group on Explosive Threats and the NGO REVIVE, which promotes long-term support for landmine victims, with support from the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) and the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Britain.

The event was attended by representatives of the British Parliament, the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Ministry of Defense, local scientists and experts, representatives of organizations involved in mine action, as well as journalists. Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of ANAMA, spoke at the event.

In his opening speech, ambassador of Azerbaijan to the UK, Elin Suleymanov, spoke about the 30-year-old Armenian aggression, it was noted that even after the end of the occupation, Armenia planted thousands of mines on the territory of Azerbaijan, and a topic related to the severe humanitarian consequences of these actions of the Armenian side was raised.

The diplomat said that mine clearance in the liberated territories is one of the important factors in achieving peace in the region, and thanked the British government for financial and expert support in this direction.
