Türkiye hopes for the implementation of the project of establishing the Zangazur Corridor by 2029, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said, Ednews reports citing Interfax.

"The Azerbaijani part of the Zangazur corridor, starting from Baku to Horadiz, is about to be completed. The length of the Turkish part of the corridor is 224 km. In general, the process of establishing this corridor will take 5 years. In my opinion, in 2028 we will wrap up all the work," the minister stated.

He added that except for the part passing through the territory of Armenia, construction works are ongoing in the section from Horadiz to Ordubad. About 100 km of the existing road connecting the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with Türkiye will be required to be rebuilt. Its continuation will be the Igdir-Kars railway. Tender procedures have already been conducted for this railway line and its construction will start this year.

Addressing Yerevan's position regarding the Zangazur Corridor, Abdulkadir Uraloglu emphasized that when such an initiative was proposed for the first time, although its benefits were discussed, the Armenian side reacted negatively.

"But recently, Pashinyan (Prime Minister of Armenia - ed.) has voiced positive messages about this corridor. The length of the Armenian part of the Zangazur corridor is approximately 43 km. For the corridor to be considered fully completed, they must carry out planning and tenders. Thus, Türkiye, the Turkish world and will have direct and easy access to Central Asian countries", said Abdulkadir Uraloglu.
