There are forces in the political elite of Russia that are trying to spoil relations with Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani MP, member of the working group on Azerbaijan-Russia interparliamentary relations Nigar Arpadarai said. EDnews reports, citing Report.az
According to her, it is necessary to find out whether the incident against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg is an isolated case or part of some campaign.
"Giving certain examples, I can say that the topic of migrants has been inflated in Russia for some time now. Although this campaign is mainly aimed against people from Central Asia, Azerbaijan is also included in this framework. In addition, after the AZAL plane was shot down, there is a certain coolness in relations. In this matter the Russian side has chosen a policy of silence and avoidance of the topic. However, the statements openly made by our president have shown that Azerbaijan will not allow this issue to be forgotten," Arpadarai said.
The MP also drew attention to the fact that the Russian media began to spread various provocative materials related to Azerbaijan, especially in the context of migrants and our country's relations with Ukraine: "At the same time, Azerbaijan does not take any hidden position, has not changed its line since the beginning of the war and builds its policy on the principles of international law. This shows that the information being disseminated is being ordered. It is clear that there are forces within the Russian political elite that are trying to spoil relations with Azerbaijan. I am sure that these are the same forces that sent modern weapons to Armenia during the 2020 war, sent Ruben Vardyanyan to Karabakh, and tried to divert the investigation into the downed AZAL passenger plane from the right direction. Even if it cannot be said that they directly organized the events in Yekaterinburg, the information background created around the events is apparently the product of the same hand. I just want to remind you that the confrontation with Azerbaijan is contrary to the interests of Russia. This means that these forces are not acting in the interests of the state, but based on personal ambitions. I hope that Moscow understands this."
On the morning of June 27, the Russian FSB raided the homes of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. During the raid, two people were killed and several others were injured. The killed Azerbaijanis were the brothers of the well-known journalist Seyfaddin Huseynli.
On June 28, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement demanding an investigation and the prosecution of those responsible for 'this unacceptable act of violence.' Later, the Russian chargé d'affaires was summoned to the Foreign Ministry, where a strong protest was expressed to him in connection with the incident.
