The incident that resulted in the murder of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg is not only criminal, but also a clear example of systematic discrimination, Islamophobia and ethnic violence, Fatma Yildirim, a deputy of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, said in her statement. Ednews reports, citing the Report.az
According to her, this is an open attack on the national identity of Azerbaijan, a crime committed purposefully against Azerbaijanis. The details of the incident indicate that this crime was ordered:
"Torture against our compatriots, legal violations and the campaign conducted in the media confirm this. Today, Russia is pursuing a policy based on chauvinism and intolerance against non-Russians, especially Muslims. Against the background of a lack of war resources, false accusations, pressure and blackmail mechanisms are being launched against Azerbaijani migrants. This is behavior that does not fit the principles of humanity and humanism."
The MP said that Azerbaijan will not remain silent about this incident:
"Because what is happening is not just a legal issue. This is national dignity, state and civil solidarity. Behind us is the will of the people and the leader they have chosen. President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly stated that, regardless of where they live, every Azerbaijani is under the protection of this state. This is not just a statement, but a state guarantee. Our compatriots who were killed in Yekaterinburg were also carriers of this protection. The recent cyberattacks carried out by Russia, the denial of entry to our deputy, the crackdown on migrants, as well as the increase in Islamophobic rhetoric, are a worrying trend. The speeches of figures like Solovyov are a manifestation of the Kremlin's hostile policy in the media."
Yildirim stressed that Russia is trying to cover up domestic crises by searching for an "external enemy":
"Unfortunately, the next target of this process may be the South Caucasus. The activation of revanchist forces in Armenia is also part of this scenario. Azerbaijan is a strong state that prevents these attempts and guarantees peace and stability. Today, President Ilham Aliyev is the leader not only of our country but of all Azerbaijanis around the world. His political determination unites us around national interests. Our state will use all opportunities to protect the rights of our compatriots."
On the morning of June 27, the Russian Federal Security Service raided houses where Azerbaijanis lived in Yekaterinburg. During the raid, two Azerbaijanis were killed and several others were detained. The murdered Azerbaijanis are the brothers of the well-known journalist Seyfaddin Huseynli.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs also released a statement on June 28 regarding the attacks on Azerbaijanis by the Russian Federal Security Service in Yekaterinburg.
In addition, the Russian chargé d'affaires was summoned to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the incident in Yekaterinburg, and a strong protest was expressed.
