The US and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities were a flagrant violation of international law, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and UN Security Council Resolution 2231, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said at the plenary session of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, EDnews reports.
"The attacks by the US and Israel on our nuclear facilities were a flagrant violation of the NPT and Security Council Resolution 2231, which unanimously approved Iran's peaceful nuclear program in 2015," the Iranian foreign minister said.
According to him, the Islamic Republic's nuclear program "has always been exclusively peaceful and has been under the strictest control of the International Atomic Energy Agency."
The minister also thanked the BRICS countries that condemned the actions of the US and Israel against the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic and its right to develop peaceful nuclear energy.
"We are determined to document the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel, which attacked our country. The US and Israel must be held accountable for violating international law. We will not give up our demands for justice and compensation," the Iranian foreign minister said.
According to the minister, the consequences of "this aggressive war will not be limited to just one country."
In this context, he stressed that the actions of the US and Israel have weakened the international legal system based on the UN Charter.
