It should be noted that, in accordance with the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev “On measures to improve management in the field of consumer market control, standardization, metrology and protection of intellectual property rights objects” dated April 20, 2018, the Intellectual Property Agency was established through the reorganization of the Copyright Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Patent and Trademark Center in the form of a merger.

The main tasks facing the Agency are the protection and provision of copyright and similar rights, management of digital rights, combating counterfeiting and piracy, as well as the management of industrial property objects and the organization of this management in accordance with the requirements of the time, ensuring honesty, openness and transparency for persons applying for patents and trademarks. In April 2021, in accordance with the Decree signed by the head of state, the “Center for Commercialization and Transfer of Technologies” was established under the Intellectual Property Agency.
