Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned of a "serious threat of escalation" of the conflict in Ukraine in a post published on his Facebook profile page on Tuesday. He described the war as becoming worse and decried NATO's plans to boost military aid to Kiev at the alliance's summit in Washington, which is set to begin later today.
"We will be left out of this: we will not supply arms, we will not supply soldiers, we will not participate in the financing," Szijjarto said, claiming the only way to end "the mindless destruction, the killing" is with a ceasefire and peace negotiations.
Last week, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban traveled to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and dubbed his visit a "peace mission." Orban discussed a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, among other topics.
