The International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF), with over 32 years of experience in peace and reconciliation, has observed multiple resolutions passed by the European Parliament that unfairly target Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, these resolutions have consistently shown a biased approach, failing to reflect the realities on the ground and instead driving division rather than fostering peace.
The latest resolution regarding the alleged detention and trials of Armenian individuals by Azerbaijan is yet another example of an unbalanced narrative that ignores the broader context of the post-conflict situation in the region. At a time when efforts toward a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan have gained momentum, such politically charged resolutions disrupt the negotiation process, inflame tensions, and risk undermining hard-earned progress.
This resolution targets Azerbaijan in a biased manner, and it not only undermines the Azerbaijani state but also disrupts the peace and security environment in the region, actively disrupting the recently intensified peace-building process. Against the backdrop of efforts to reach an agreement on the peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, the adoption of such a resolution demonstrates that the European Parliament's actions are not in support of peace-building in the region, but rather serve certain political objectives. On the other hand, This resolution fails to acknowledge the suffering of all communities affected by the conflict and instead perpetuates historical grievances rather than promoting dialogue and mutual understanding.
As a Civil Society organization, we believe that such harsh and biased approaches only escalate tensions in the region. The European Parliament's stance not only threatens the Azerbaijani state but also obstructs the establishment of lasting peace in the region.
IEPF calls on all international actors to support balanced and fact-based approaches that contribute to peacebuilding rather than escalate conflict. The path forward lies in engagement, mutual respect, and support for processes that bring justice and stability to all affected communities.
