Chinese President Xi Jinping left Beijing on Monday for a two-day state visit to North Korea, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Xi's entourage includes his wife Peng Liyuan, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Cai Qi, director of the General Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
The visit -- Xi's first overseas trip of the year -- comes at the invitation of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The Chinese leader last visited North Korea in 2019, becoming the first Chinese president in 14 years to travel to the country.
Xi's trip comes at a time of shifting regional dynamics, including the strengthening of ties between Pyongyang and Moscow under a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed in 2024, which includes mutual defense commitments.
