The delegation headed by Vugar Suleymanov, the Chairman of the Management Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), is on a business trip to Geneva, Switzerland, Ednews informs.

The delegation is participating in the 27th International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and United Nations Advisers (NDM-UN27), co-hosted and co-organized by the United Nations Inter-Agency Coordination Group on Mine Action (IACG-MA) and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), held from 29 April to 1 May 2024 at the International Conference Center Geneva (CICG).

At the 27th International meeting, the delegation participated in the discussions on the actual problems faced by the field of demining under the main theme of ‘Protecting Life, Building Peace’.

Within the framework of the events, on April 30, the ANAMA and the United Nations Development Program organized a side event themed on ‘National achievements in demining activities - inclusive approach and SDGs".

Vugar Suleymanov, who gave an opening speech at the side event, brought to the attention of the participants that the landmine problem that Azerbaijan is facing poses a threat to people's health, living environment, environmental pollution, and has a significant negative impact on the development efforts of the region.

Also, he presented information on the achievements and decisive measures taken in the direction of eliminating the mine threat and reducing its consequences in the liberated territories. Speaking about the establishment of the first women's demining teams in Azerbaijan, the chairman emphasized that inclusive approaches are important for the effective and sustainable implementation of mine threat initiatives.

As a part of the side event, panel discussions were held and opinions were exchanged on the topics of promotion of mine threat combating activities for sustainable development, negative effects of explosive ammunition on cultural patterns, as well as strengthening of landmine threat combating activities through gender and inclusive approaches.
