At the annual awards ceremony organized by the Diplomat magazine published in London, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to the UK Elin Suleymanov was awarded the "Diplomat of the Year" award for his contribution to climate diplomacy.
EDnews reports that speaking at the event, Ambassador E. Suleymanov emphasized that this award is primarily an appreciation of Azerbaijan's contribution to the climate agenda and its commitment to sustainable development. The diplomat noted that it was precisely as a logical consequence of the vision of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on climate action that Azerbaijan hosted COP29 last year.
Ambassador Suleymanov thanked the diplomatic corps in London, saying that this award is also an appreciation of the efforts of the COP29 Presidency team.
Stressing that climate change is one of the main global challenges, Ambassador Suleymanov noted that Azerbaijan, which successfully hosted COP29 last year, continues its efforts in this direction as the COP29 chairman and will continue to keep the issue in the attention of the international community.
The diplomat thanked the diplomatic corps in London for their fruitful and constructive cooperation on the climate agenda throughout the year. The ambassador also thanked the British side for their cooperation on the subject.
It should be noted that this award ceremony, one of the main events of the diplomatic calendar in London, is presented annually to the diplomats who have distinguished themselves in various categories with their activities. The award ceremony, which has been held for 15 years, is attended by about 200 guests, including ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Britain, the director and staff of the Protocol Department of the British Foreign Office, the Marshal of the diplomatic corps, well-known statesmen, businessmen and media representatives.
