A high-level session titled “From Baku to Belem: COP29 and COP30” was held in Geneva, organized by the COP29 Presidency in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union. The event marked a significant milestone in the global initiative towards sustainable digital transformation.

EDnews note that the session focused on the Declaration on Green Digital Action, presented during the first-ever "Digitalisation Day" at COP29 in Baku. This declaration has garnered endorsements from nearly 2,000 stakeholders, including governments from 83 countries, companies, civil society organizations, and international bodies. 

Key speakers at the session included Nigar Arpadarai, UN Climate Action High-Level Champion for COP29; Ambassador Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota, Brazil's Permanent Representative to the WTO and other economic organizations in Geneva; ITU Deputy Secretary-General Tomas Lamanauskas; Katalin Marinescu, ITU's Head of Strategic Planning and Membership; Elmar Mammadov, Co-Chair of COP29's Global Initiatives Group; Lala Hikmat, member of the COP29 delegation; and Pedro Ivo Ferraz da Silva, Coordinator for Science, Technology, and Bilateral Relations in Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Discussions centered on integrating digital solutions into climate strategies, promoting low-emission technologies, and fostering cross-sector collaboration. Participants emphasized the importance of aligning digital transitions with global climate action goals and the need for continuity and complementarity between COP presidencies in advancing green digital initiatives.

The session concluded with an interactive segment, facilitating open dialogue and reinforcing momentum towards green digital transformation ahead of COP30 in Belem, Brazil.
