Hikmet Hajiyev, the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration, recently hinted at the possibility of halting military operations worldwide during the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be hosted in Baku.

Discussing the potential impact of such a ceasefire on international relations, political scientist Tofig Abbasov highlighted the historical precedent of pausing hostilities during holidays and special occasions, often leading to a softening of tensions and renewed diplomatic efforts.

Abbasov emphasized the significance of COP29 for fostering peace, stating, "If military operations are truly halted worldwide during COP29, this will once again showcase Azerbaijan's commitment to diplomacy and humanity to the global community."

Furthermore, Abbasov underscored the importance of utilizing this temporary ceasefire to bring conflicting parties to the negotiation table and address underlying issues contributing to global instability. He urged prioritizing stabilizing measures and gradual softening processes to overcome challenges such as poverty, food shortages, and nuclear proliferation.

Abbasov concluded by emphasizing the collective responsibility of political, social, and global community stakeholders in advancing the cause of peace, calling for concerted efforts to realize the potential of Azerbaijan's initiative at COP29.
