Explosions were reported near the US Consulate in Iraq’s Erbil governorate on Saturday following a suspected drone attack, according to local sources.
Sources said air defense systems were activated in response to the incident, with footage circulating on social media appearing to show drones being intercepted in the air.
Another suspected kamikaze drone was reportedly shot down near Erbil Airport, where US forces are based.
There was no immediate official confirmation from US or Iraqi authorities on the incident.
The reported attack came hours after another drone incident targeted the residence of Kurdistan Regional Government President Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok.
The developments add to concerns over the spillover of wider regional tensions into Iraq.
